Achieving Excellence And Red Tape Are Hot Topics At Association Of Building Engineers Conference

This year’s Association of Building Engineers (ABE) Conference and Exhibition is set to spark discussion about the need for excellence among construction professionals and will focus on how to achieve more than compliance in the design and maintenance of buildings.

Now in its 49th year, the conference will take place at Marriott Gosforth Park, Newcastle, on 3-5 November, and is the perfect platform for attendees to gain a valuable insight, first hand, from industry professionals.

This year delegates will have the chance to attend the Expert Panel Debate, which will see David McCullough FRICS PPIBC chair the debate on Red Tape and reducing the burden of legislation on businesses and the public. Alongside David will be Paul Everall, chief executive of LABC, who has a wealth of experience working with the Government to develop legislation. Also on the panel will be a senior representative ACAI to give a private sector perspective on what is currently a hot topic throughout the construction industry.

The conference programme promises to be educational and informative, with speakers including:

·       Kevin Sheridan, president of AEEBC
·       Steve Emery, fire safety advisor at English Heritage
·       Nev Kirby, regional building manager for National Trust Yorkshire and North East
·       Ben Bradford from BB7 Fire Safety Engineering
·       Abigail Morgan from SustainEnable
·       Colin Driver from Interserve Project Services Ltd
·       Anthea Nicholson from DCLG

Additionally, the CPD sessions will give attendees case study examples of achieving and maintaining design excellence from Peter Udall, head of property and design for Gateshead Council, and Stephen Little, director of building services for The Sage.

Colin Bell, president of the ABE, commented: “As the recognised membership body for those specialising in the technology of building, ABE strives to promote professional development. Our annual conference provides an ideal platform to offer education and CPD hours to anyone working in the built environment. With a great line-up of high-level speakers from across the industry, this year’s event is set to be both informative and thought-provoking.”
