ADAS Assists Largest Wind Development In Devon To Gain Planning
The largest wind farm development in Devon has begun producing and contributing power to the national grid after successfully gaining planning approval and developing the site. It will provide a total installed capacity of 66 megawatts, enough energy to power 5,000 homes.
Environmental & agricultural consultancy, ADAS, provided environmental co-ordination and assessment services to the developers of Fullabrook Wind Farm in North Devon. ADAS was appointed to ensure that the planning proposal was robust, increasing the probability of approval.

ADAS also provided evidence that demonstrated to the Council that if it did not seriously consider a development of this size, it would not be able to meet its renewable energy targets. ADAS made a successful case to demonstrate that by approving a large site for development, the council would minimise environmental and visual impact across the county by concentrating the bulk of development on one site.
Fullabrook Wind Farm consists of 22 turbines of up to three megawatts capacity, giving a total installed capacity for the site of 66 megawatts. An onsite electricity substation has also been constructed on the southern edge of the site, allowing for underground cabling to connect the wind farm to the national grid.
When choosing a suitable development site, ADAS had to factor in many different environmental and social constraints such as distance from electricity lines, residential areas, conservation zones, and telecommunications masts. These constraints mean there are only limited areas in the county that are suitable for this scale of development.

“North Devon had previously rejected the vast majority of wind farm applications until ADAS helped with the Fullabrook proposal and proved that the proposed site was the best option for large scale renewable development.”
