Council Ready To File Plans For 20 Years Of Development

Residents are being given a chance to tell the council if plans that will shape life in Croydon for the next 20 years meet a defined set of standards.

     Following three rounds of public consultation since 2009, the council is ready to take its Core Strategy & Proposals Map to a government-appointed inspector before going to a formal “examination in public” process.

     The Core Strategy is the most important planning policy document for the borough and provides the spatial vision, strategic objectives and planning policies for Croydon until 2031.

     This final publication is residents’ chance to let the council know if the document and the policies contained within it are justified, effective, consistent with national policy, and in general conformity with regional policy.

     Councillor Jason Perry, cabinet member for planning, transport and sustainability, said: “The policies will guide development over the next 20 years to make sure that we have the homes, shops, jobs, schools, health, leisure and other essential facilities we need to make life enjoyable.

     “This includes conservation of our heritage, natural and built environments, and the local distinctiveness that makes the places of Croydon so special.

     “The Core Strategy will also provide the strategic framework for neighbourhood plans coming forward as part of the government’s Localism Bill.”

     The document can be viewed between 12 September and 24 October at:
     •      borough libraries (during normal opening hours);
     •      Access Croydon, Taberner House, Park Lane, Croydon, from 9am to 4.30pm;
