Environmental Scientifics Group Awarded Thames Cable Car Contract
Combined land and overwater site investigation work completes

02 June 2011 – Environmental Scientifics Group (ESG), the UK’s leading environmental compliance company is pleased to announce that ESG Soil Mechanics has completed a seven week programme of field work for the proposed Thames Cable Car Crossing.

The project required a combined land and over-water ground investigation, undertaken on or adjacent to RED* sites on both the north and south banks of the river, as well as within the river channel and docks. This area has a rich industrial heritage and varied land use, including Europe's largest former gasworks site and the investigation encountered uncharted foundations and heavy contamination. As a result, a wide range of exploratory and in-situ testing methods were undertaken in order to deal with the variety of ground conditions.

Project Manager Edward Crimp at ESG Soil Mechanics says “ensuring that the project could be mobilised within five weeks of order and delivered on time, required close co-operation between the stakeholders involved in this significant project.”

He adds “approximately thirty engineers, depot and specialist services staff worked on both land and over-water aspects of the project. Thanks to ESG's depth and breadth of experience, we were able to meet the project requirements through creation of an exceptional site team who were ready for the challenge. Their ability to deliver operational effectiveness and adapt to challenging ground, site and environmental conditions proved a valuable asset for the client.”
