Homes In Havering - Case Study

Longstanding tenant gives thumbs-up to home revamp
A disabled Havering man has seen his home transformed thanks to a programme of major refurbishment work.
Michael Lloyd, who uses a wheelchair after suffering spinal injuries, has lived in the same flat in Adelphi Crescent, Hornchurch, for 16 years.
His landlord, Homes in Havering, has recently carried out thousands of pounds worth of improvements to the property, which dates back to the 1960s.
The one-bedroom flat has been fitted with a new kitchen and central heating system, complete with a combi boiler and new radiators in every room.
Michael said: “I’m over the moon with the improvements that have been done – they have transformed my flat, and I was very impressed with how the whole process was carried out.
“I was involved right from the beginning. A surveyor from Magnet Kitchens, Homes in Havering’s Capital Projects team and a representative from Morrison came round and drew up a plan for the kitchen. And then I chose things like the colour of the units, work surfaces, handles and floor tiles.
“After arranging what needed to be done, work started within weeks and it was carried out within eight days. It usually takes around 10 to 15 days depending on what kind of work is being done, so I was really pleased. The contractors were very polite, professional and efficient.
“I am sure that I’m not the only tenant who is extremely pleased with the results.”
Contractor Morrison Facilities Services fitted the kitchen and Castle Point Gas & Heating Co Ltd carried out the central heating work.
Michael added: “I’ve been living here since before the housing stock was transferred from Havering Council, and I have seen great improvements in the properties and the whole area since Homes in Havering took over.
“They maintain the grounds and the cleanliness of the communal lobbies to a high standard, I have always found the customer service centre very helpful. My experience was a very good one. Morrison and Homes in Havering’s Capital Projects team kept me updated through the process.
