RSBi Football Match Scores Almost 2k For Children's Charities

Forty workers from one of Europe’s largest supported employment facilities took part in a recent special charity football match on Saturday (October 8) raising £1881.60 for the STV Appeal.

Staff from Royal Strathclyde Blindcraft Industries (RSBi) took to Crownpoint pitches to support the appeal which this year aims to help children and young people affected by poverty in Scotland.

RSBi employs over 240 workers, of whom more than 50 per cent have a disability and includes veterans from recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is operated by City Building – Glasgow City Council’s arm’s-length construction company – and produces a range of furniture and construction products to exacting standards.

Steven McGurk, a machine operator at RSBi, arranged the event after hearing about the appeal and his colleagues were quick to get involved and show their support.

Steven said: “We thought the STV Appeal 2011 was a great cause as all the money raised in Scotland stays in Scotland to help children who are living in poverty throughout the country.

“Before Saturday I hadn’t played football in years but we all really enjoyed the day and it felt good to know that by holding this event we are helping to make a difference to the lives of children and young people across Scotland. I certainly won’t leave it as long to get back on the pitch next time!”

John Foley, Director of Finance at City Building, which operates RSBi, said: “We would like to congratulate Steven and the rest of the RSBi team for arranging this event and showing their support for children affected by poverty.

“Their team spirit and dedication will make a great contribution towards helping children and young people across the country and reflects the strong social ethos we all support at City Building.”
